Thank you for your interest in College Horizons 2005, a pre-college workshop for Native American, Alaskan and Hawaiian students co-sponsored by AIGC (American Indian Graduate Center), Winds of Change Magazine, and 33 of the nation's finest colleges. June 11-15 at Westmont College, Santa Barbara, CA, June 18-22, at Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH, and June 25-29 at Harvard College, Cambridge, MA.

To be considered, students must be Native American/Alaskan (enrolled) or Hawaiian (proof of Native heritage) current sophomores or juniors, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students may indicate preference for a site. Program cost is $100, which includes room and board, transportation from and to the airport, and all program materials. Ample funds are available (based on need) for tuition and travel assistance. The maximum enrollment for the program is 56 students per site. Students will work with expert college counselors, essay specialists, and representatives from (1 - at Westmont, 2 - at Oberlin, 3 - at Harvard):

The 3-part application follows (please photocopy). The receipt deadline for priority first round is February 10 - notification mailed February 18; second round deadline is March 1 - notification mailed March 10 (applications received after 3/1 will be accepted on a space available basis until June 1). No faxes will be accepted. A program schedule and information packet will be sent to you if you are accepted (also see web site for schedules, photos, articles, etc.). All air travel is to be arranged through the program's travel agent (she'll also have the cheapest fares). Travel information will be sent with the acceptance packets. All students flying in will be provided transportation from and to the Los Angeles/Burbank or Santa Barbara, CA, Cleveland, OH and Boston, MA airports. Parents who drive their students to campus are invited to attend our opening and closing sessions.

Admission checklist (All materials must be sent in ONE envelope - applications will not be processed unless all items listed below are enclosed):

_____ Tribal enrollment number (Hawaii Native and then proof of ancestry)
_____ Email address (this is how we will contact you. Put your parent's if you don't have one)
_____ Student application - must have both parent and student signatures and typed essay
_____ Teacher Recommendation - in a sealed envelope, with their signature across the flap
_____ Counselor Recommendation & Transcript (including test scores—PLAN, PSAT, ACT, SAT, etc.—and high school grades through 1st semester 2004) - with parent signature - in a sealed envelope, with counselor's signature across the flap - do not send separately!
_____ Application fee of $10 and deposit fee of $50* - check made payable to "AIGC/College Horizons"
_____ Copy of Parent's 2003 (or 2004 if available) 1040 tax form (or proof of income for those who don't file) if requesting assistance with tuition or airfare.
*We typically accept 85% of the students who apply to College Horizons, and about 90% of those students attend. This deposit is fully refundable if you are not accepted or you notify us by May 1 you are not coming. It is required to hold your place. The remaining $50 (unless you get a $50 tuition scholarship, and then you only pay the $50 deposit) is not due until you arrive at the program.
